Years ago I had a chance to see the local Chicago play – Streeterville. I think it may have only been performed for one month back in 2001.

Anyway, see the link below for a lot of historical information about “Cap Streeter” and his epic, decades long attempt to de-annex himself and his swamp and stuck boatĀ from Illinois and host a whorehouse and drinking establishment on Chicago’s lakefront.

This is the story of how this patch of land became known as Streeterville. A hundred years ago when you mentioned the neighborhood Streeterville people would have a very different impression than today!
